Dodge vehicles have a reputation for being tough – but even a Dodge can face unanticipated problems - Dodge Durango could experience engine problems, Dodge RAM 1500 is known for ignition switch that does not work properly, and Dodge Grand Caravan should have its brakes inspected regularly, as they tend to wear down rapidly due to its weight. Here are some common issues with the popular Dodge models:

Dodge Avenger is a four door sports sedan. The four-door version was introduced in 2008, and unfortunately that year it suffered from major transmission and engine problem. If you are looking to purchase a used Dodge Avenger, we recommend a pre-purchase inspection, especially for the 2008 model year. 2012 Avenger suffered from heater problems. Remaining model years have few issues reported.

Dodge Caravan is a minivan that is available both as a passenger van and as a cargo van. 2005 Caravan had issues with power locks not working correctly.

Dodge Charger has been around for more than half a century, with the current version being a four-door sedan. 2011 Dodge Charger suffered from a number of electrical problems, including alternator failure, while 2007 Charger had transmission problems. More recent models report few issues.

Dodge Dakota aka RAM Dakota is a midsized pickup that was discontinued in 2011. However, there are still plenty of them on the roads. 2002 Dodge Dakota suffered from brake problems, while 2005 Dakota had a variety of engine issues.

Dodge Durango is a mid-size SUV that has been with us for over two decades. Both 2011 and 2012 Durango models suffered from electrical issues, in particular from failure of the TIPM (totally integrated power module). 2004 model owners faced serious engine problems, up to engine failure. It appears that Dodge figured out how to fix these issues, as more recent models report few problems.

Dodge Grand Caravan is an upgraded version of Dodge Caravan. Grand Caravan is considered by many to be the best minivan ever produced. 2011 Grand Caravan suffered from electrical problems, including TIPM failure. 2007 model had brake problems. As a matter of fact, we recommend regular brake inspections if you own a Grand Caravan – brakes wear down rapidly due to its weight.

Dodge Intrepid is a full sized front-wheel drive sedan, and even though it has been discontinued, at Toole’s Garage Stockton we still support Intrepid owners. Since 1998 model year until it was discontinued in 2004, there were persistent reports of engine failures.

Dodge Journey is a mid-size crossover SUV, discontinued in 2020. We continue to support Dodge Journey vehicles at our Stockton auto repair shop. 2009 Journey suffered from brake problems, primarily premature brake pad and rotor wear as well as electrical problems. These issues plagued later Journey model years as well.

Dodge RAM 1500 aka RAM Truck is a pickup truck that’s “RAM tough”. Used for towing and hauling, it is a workhorse for Stockton contractors. 2001-2003 model years suffered from cracked dashboard, as well as engine problems. 2004 model suffered from engine stalling, as well as outright engine failures. 2011 Dodge RAM 1500 had electrical issues, mostly due to problems with the Totally Integrated Power Module ( TIPM). 2014 RAM 1500 had transmission issues.

Dodge RAM 2500 suffered from cracked dashboard in 2001-2003, just as the 1500,while the 2006 model year had issues with air conditioning and also faced suspension problems. Starting in 2012 it is known as the RAM Truck 2500, and the 2015 model had drivetrain problems.

Dodge RAM 3500 had cracked dashboard problem between 2001-2003, just as its smaller brothers, the 1500 and 2500. 2006 model had problems with air conditioning, just as 2500 did. 2010 model suffered from TIPM failures. Starting in 2012 it’s been rebranded as RAM Truck 3500. 2012 RAM Truck had engine and suspension problems, while the 2013 model faced suspension problems again. For later models, we only see sporadic problem reports.

Dodge Stratus is a midsize car manufactured for about a decade. Sadly, throughout its short lifespan Stratus was suffering from a variety of engine problems. Transmission problems were also present in the 2001-2003 model years.
