Acura Integra Service in San Carlos

Some people might not realize it, but the Acura Integra was the first car Honda made that started Acura as a separate luxury brand for the automaker. Beginning in 1986, Honda built the Acura Integra hatchback to show off their engineering quality and excellence. It came in two- and four-door models.

The car was instantly a hit for people who wanted a car that was sporty, reliable and less expensive than imported German luxury cars. Acura filled the Integra with luxury interior details and kept the outside sleek and stylish to appeal to entry-level luxury car buyers in the American market. Like all Acura models, the Integrity was based on a Honda vehicle and shared most of the basic Honda underpinnings.

Over the years, Acura built on the popularity of the Integrity and combined it with their Formula 1 racing engineering skills to bring even more innovations to the Acura brand. In the early 1990s, Acura introduced the popular VTEC variable valve-timing engine system in the Integra model. This boosted the power of the little 4-cylinder engine while maintaining its impressive fuel efficiency ratings.

The final generation of the Integra was on the American market from 1994 through 2001. During that time, the Acura Integra was consistently rated as one of the best front- wheel drive cars in its class. People loved driving it because it was exciting and it looked sporty. The 2001 Integra Type R won the Edmunds.com Editors’ Most Wanted Award for Best Sports Coupe in the Under $30,000 category. In 2001, Acura switched to using initials to name its cars, and the Integra model was reclassified as the RSX. Throughout its lifetime, the Acura Integra made Car and Driver Magazine’s Ten Best list a whopping six times.
