San Carlos Honda Civic Repair

Dave the Car Guy's car history and facts: Honda Civic

DID YOU KNOW the Honda Civic basically kept Honda in the car business? In the early 70's Honda's car sales were slipping in Japan and they were close to getting out of the car making business altogether. But, starting in 1972, the Honda Civic was introduced, took off and turned things around. The rest, as they say, is history!

Starting with the original Honda Civic (which was available as a coupe, a three- and five-door hatchback and a five-door station wagon), there have been nine "generations" of the car, the most recent released in 2011.

The Honda Civic is a very popular car in America. In fact the Honda Civic once supplanted the Ford F-Series truck as the best selling vehicle in the U.S.! It is even more popular around the world. (It has been the top selling car in Canada for over 14 years.

The Honda Civic was originally built as "a car for all people, a car for the world." Over 40 years later it has certainly become that, and then some. But more than anything, it literally kept Honda in the car-making business. And that's a fact that makes a lot of Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, Honda Crosstour, Honda Insight, Honda Fit - and Honda Civic - owners very happy! :)

  • Engine oil level - Check every time you fill the tank with fuel.
  • Engine coolant level - Check the radiator reserve tank every time you check the oil level.
  • Windshield washer fluid - Check the operation monthly if you don't use often. If you use the washers frequently, just top off the reservoir each time you stop for fuel.
  • Tires - Check the tire pressure monthly if your vehicle does not have TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). Examine the tread for wear and foreign objects.
  • Lights - Check the operation monthly of the headlights, taillights, parking lights, all brake lights, including the high-mount brake light, turn signal operation, and don't forget the license plate lights too!
